How Vent works

Vent is a voice-first diary for iOS and Android. You capture spoken thoughts, read them in your vault, and optionally talk them through with on-device Personal AI. Diary and conversation content are not uploaded to Vent.

How do I capture a vent?

Hold to Vent on the Record tab (or turn off Hold to record in Settings to tap once to start and tap again to stop). Vent transcribes using on-device speech models when you finish. Cached recording is removed after the transcript is saved.

Where are my entries stored?

Transcripts are saved as encrypted files in your vault — a folder you choose on iOS or Documents/Vent on Android. The Vents tab lists entries on your device only.

What are Conversations?

Conversations let you reflect or get coaching-style guidance from an on-device assistant grounded in your recent vents — not clinical diagnosis or therapy.

What is Personal AI?

Personal AI is the combined on-phone speech pack and reflection model you download once on Wi‑Fi (about ~3.4 GB). You need at least 5 GB RAM. Vents and Conversations are not sent to Vent for processing. The exact download size matches the packs in your app build.

Can I use Vent without internet?

Yes, after Personal AI is installed. The initial download requires Wi‑Fi.

Is Vent therapy?

No. Vent is reflective practice, not therapy or crisis care. Contact emergency services or someone you trust if you are in danger.
